Contemporary Appalachian & Celtic Music
rooted deep in Tradition

About Us

Devilish Merry fuses improvisation with traditional and contemporary forms. The band has created a dynamic, layered, and driving brand of music that bridges cultural roots and produces a totally unique sound.

The group’s music is centered around Appalachian songs and tunes that harken back to the Scots-Irish roots of the band members.  Devilish Merry mixes old-time mountain songs and square dance tunes with Celtic jigs and reels.  They go on to create their own new music, songs and dance tunes including waltzes that retain the feel of vintage themes and new music on traditional instruments.

Devilish Merry members are Sue Powers, banjo, vocals, Jeff Berman on lap dulcimer, percussion, Jan Hamilton on fiddle, and Burr Beard on hammer dulcimer and vocals.

Devilish Merry performs for Contra and Square Dances, as well as for Concerts and Festivals.

From the band's debut album Ghost of His Former Self, Devilish Merry has produced memorable recordings including Beauty Is Everywhere and Water and Vines.
